Zakat Types:

  • Zakat ul-Fitr
  • Zaka ul-Mal

Zakat ul-Fitr:

Zakat ul-Fitr is payable during Ramadan and before Eid and based on the following hadith:

Ibn Abbas (r.a.) said: "The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) enjoined Zakat-ul-Fitr to purify the fasting person from verbal errors and evil deed and to feed the poor. Whoever gives it before Eid Prayer, it will be an accepted Zakat and whoever gives after Eid prayer it will be Sadaqa" narrated by Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Hakim and others.

Zakat ul-Fitr (Fitrana) for 2021 is one Saa`a (Two hand full) of wheat, barley, dates, raisins and walnuts. Imam Abu Hanifa said it can be paid in money in which case for 2021 it is €7.00 per person.


زكاة الفطر

روى أبو داود وأبن ماجه والدارقطن عن أبن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال فرض رسول الله (ص) زكاة الفطر طهرة للصائم من اللغو والرفث وطعمة للمساكين من أداها قبل الصلاة فهي زكاة مقبولة ومن أخرها بعد الصلاة فهي صدقة من الصدقات .

وقدرها صاع من القمح أو الشعير أو التمر أو الزبيب وجوز الأمام أبو حنيفة (رض) إخراج القيمة مراعاة لحال الفقير وهي تعادل 7جنيهات ايرلندية عن الصغير والكبير.

How to pay your Zakat:

You can hand your Zakat money to the Islamic Foundation of Ireland to pay it on your behalf to the needy Muslims in Ireland and abroad (Due to Covid-19 you can ONLY PAY BY BANK TRANSFER)

Zakat money received by the Islamic Foundation of Ireland is not used for the running expenses of the Mosque or Islamic Centre but given to the people who are allowed to receive Zakat according to the Shari’ah.

Methods of payment:

1- Zakat money can be handed to the IFI office or put in the Zakat box in the Dublin Mosque (Due to Covid-19 this option is currently unavailable)

2- Transfer or lodge your Zakat in the Islamic Foundation of Ireland Zakat Fund bank account. Account details are as follows:
